A Quick Dram: 1.126 (Glenfarclas 40 yo)

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottling 1.126
Glenfarclas 40 yo
Distilled: Mar 1965
Bottled: Aug 2005
57.6% ABV
Available to the SMWS members

Colour: bull blood/leather

Nose: Treacle, leather sofa, book cabinet, old linen tablecloth, milk chocolate. It’s musty and heavy, complex and gorgeous. Peaches and limes with floral overtones with water.

Palate: Hits sweet with a dominant flavour of fruit candy, transforms citrusy and reaches its bitter smoky peak. Like a good cigar.

Finish: Smoky, mouthwatering and ridiculously oaky.

Overall: I have said it so many times but I’ll do it again. Glenfarclas is the best Speysider and it matures soooo well! There is no such thing as too old Glenfarclas, the older the better. This particular cask is mind-blowing, orgasmic. The best whisky tasted for this humble blog since Old Pulteney 30 yo.

I have to agree that Glenfarclas age their malts incredibly well – and the prices aren’t as scary as some other distilleries. Glenfarclas 40yr is like a rich perfume – elegant, subtle and can make you feel deliciously decadent… I’ll keep an eye out for this one, next Wednesday!
