  1. Far to long and boring nearly turned it off after 30 seconds.stuck with it but all I learned was that the two guys have egos

  2. If you are going to try and take a swipe, it’s always a good idea to check the spelling and grammar that you use, otherwise you run the risk of looking like a complete idiot – a little bit like this guy just did.

  3. Wow, I never thought I would look like I had a massive ego while being really nervous and awkward on YouTube.

    Thanks for letting me know.

  4. Lucas, I like when you first nose the whisky. It’s timed perfectly with the turning on of the coffee machine in the background, sounds like you are taking an almighty sniff!

  5. Yeah:) It’s quite funny! Looking forward to the next episode.

  6. Not too bad guys. This concept definitely has some promise and I hope you stick with it. I’ve been looking for good video tasting notes for a while (I know people love Ralfy, but I just can’t watch his videos)

My two cents is that the video is indeed long. I would guess that 2 – 3 minutes is the optimal length here.

Looking forward to the next episode.

  7. I think it’s a very tricky thing, dictating how long a tasting note video should be (almost as tricky as deciding on the validity of whisky ratings), especially when there is a comparison with another whisky as you have provided here.

I think the “2-3 minute” duration would definitely appeal to what might be labelled your passing trade; your regulars and those who are after an in-depth treatment of the product and the ideologies held by the people assessing it would watch to the end. I know that when I’m producing my own tasting notes, more than twenty minutes can elapse so well done for conducting a tasting in under 10. That’s some feat.

It just takes practice, of course, if what you want to do is indeed trim the length of these posts. The whole point of the “vlog” as I see it, though, is that it provides an extra dimension to your “Quick Dram” posts. I think it lends real transparency to both the process and the personalities of the tasters and is to be applauded. A step in the right direction for the industry as a whole.

  8. So far the reaction has been brilliant and the constructive criticism welcomed. As we practise more, I reckon we will get better.

As for the length, thanks for the input. I am thinking that 7 minutes or 8 minutes will be better than 10.

There are some quite interesting things coming up, so keep your eyes peeled
