My Hogmanay

For my Hogmanay, I met up with a few friends before the bells and we drank some bourbons. We had George T Stagg at 72.70% Abv and Fighting Cock 6 year old at 51.50%. Both pretty potent, but it is cold in Edinburgh, so we had a delightful warm glow to walk out to the cold.

I’m not a big fan of the Edinburgh Hogmanay Party. It is too cold, I can’t get a drink, there is always a fight for the toilets and it costs 15quid for a ticket. Instead, I sat in one of my favourite bars in Edinburgh. I am shocked that I haven’t reviewed it so far for the blog, since I have spent quite a lot of my young life in there.

The Villager

The Villager bar is on George 4th bridge. Just down from the Castle and slightly off the Royal Mile. It is just opposite the Hotel Missoni for any of you lucky folks who can afford to stay there.

I really like the Villager for many reasons. The decor is cool and relaxing with lots of little quirks (mean looking gnomes, Adidas trainers, random ornaments). Every seat in the house is very comfortable. The music is cool and I have always received a very friendly welcome. The food menu is  reasonably priced and tasty.

The alcohol selection is superb, especially if you enjoy your Bourbon, Rum and Gin. Their single malt selection is compact but has quality. This area they are currently expanding.

I had exactly the Hogmanay I wanted. Excellent music, good drinks, friends that I hadn’t seen in ages and very little walking in the cold. All in all, it was superb.
