I remember first speaking to Mark about opening a spirits shop in Glasgow. It was eye opening when he outlined the plan for the Good Spirits Company shop and the relative lack of quality spirits shops in Glasgow’s city centre. A simple idea: to open a good quality spirits shop with fair prices. There is a Robert Graham Whisky, there is a Peckhams which is quite out of the way and there is The Whisky Shop in Buchanan galleries (pretty expensive). Apart from that, you have Inverarity wines, which has a small selection of spirits, and that’s about it. If you compare that to Edinburgh which is about a 3rd of the size of Glasgow, it would take me an awful long time to list all the spirit and alcohol shops. Mark spotted an opportunity in an under saturated market. My hat goes off to him. I was admiring and jealous when I heard the idea, because I wish I had come up with it!
After many months of work, Mark, Shane and Matthew are finally seeing their plans come to fruition. I was there last night for a few drams and to properly check out their shop. It looks brilliant! It’s literally a 5 minute walk from Queen St Station and Buchanan Galleries and it’s very near to the Pot Still. They have a really nice space for all their stock, plus a really good sized tasting room.
After a wander round the shop, I headed off to Max’s pub on Queen Street for a cheeky beer and then rounded my night off in the Pot Still before staggering off home in Good Spirits.
