New Glenmorangie flies like a butterfly…

Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or 15 years old

… but stings like a bee. It’s intense and unputdownable but there is a rare degree of elegant subtlety to it. Glenmorangie Nectar D’Or 15 years old comes dangerously close to perfection and is a strong argument for unusual cask finishes. And then there is the price. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the Christmas spirit, but this whisky is priced more than fairly. In fact, it’s the steal of the year.

Nose: Peppermint burst followed by rich orange peel bitter-sweetness. Forest fruit and Danish pastry with lemon curd. With water it’s a bit heavier and darker, a slight leathery note emerges.

Palate: Round and sweet with rich buttery carrot cake, distinct vanilla influence and an orangy tang

Finish: First smooth and sweet, then fruity, then malty, then… oh whatever. It’s long and beautiful.

Overall: RRP is £39 and you can currently get it for £30 at Waitrose. Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry! This dram blew my head right off.
