Naked Grouse Cocktail Competition (How I imagine the day will unfold)

Naked Grouse

In the next 24 hours, I will be judging a Naked Grouse Cocktail competition! Little old me! I feel very honoured. Naked Grouse is top quality. It is a heavily sherried blend. It’s main malts are the likes of Highland Park, Macallan and a few others, so they are not messing about.

The competition is to make a Naked Grouse Old Fashioned Cocktail. The simple and classic nature of the cocktail should exhibit the top notch spirit, and merely enhance it’s appeal. I love an Old Fashioned, so I am looking forward to this. I think Naked Grouse is a perfect Scotch for an Old Fashioned, as the heavily sherried nature can be opened up with the orange, sugar and bitters of an Old Fashioned. But it also has balance, so as not to be too sherried and overpowering.

Before any competition or event, I always get a little nervous. It’s natural. If I didn’t get nervous, I would get complacent, and if that happens, I should just give up. So right now I am imagining the event, and how I hope the event will unfold…

I will be hoping to make a cool entrance, like said Grouse above…

I hope there will be a few of these, each more innovative and tasty than the last…

And then, after the winner is chosen, I hope for a night of fun and frivolity, like these folks are having below…

I will keep you updated @edinburghwhisky twitter as my day unfolds. Hopefully it’s a good one.
