Unbelievably, a whole year has passed since the last blog birthday – it was a fairly epic night if the photos on my phone are anything to go by, so in true EWB fashion we’re throwing another birthday bash this year (albeit a month late, we’re just really lazy and shit at organising things)! 2014 was a helluva year, and somehow all five of us have made it through.
CISION named us one of the top ten alcohol blogs in the UK and one of the top ten Scottish blogs, the second batch of our That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottling was released, we hosted another sell out VIP tasting at Ruffians in aid of Movember, we’ve been involved with a number of whisky festivals including the Whisky Stramash, Whisky Fringe and Glasgow’s Whisky Festival, and we threw a few face-melting tastings for Edinburgh University’s Water of Life Society, Heriot Watt University’s Malt Whisky Society and Napier University’s Whisky Society.
On top of that, Tiger was named the 20th most eligible bachelor in Scotland by the Scotland on Sunday newspaper (yes, honestly!) while Graeme contracted ebola but managed to shake it off over the course of a bank holiday weekend stating that he was just ‘mildly hungover’. Hoban became a victim of the Celebgate phone hacking scandal, resulting in some rather scandalous and compromising pictures of him and bottles Cu Dubh surfacing on the internet. He has since been forced to refute damning allegations that this is his all time favourite whisky. Unfortunately for Turbo, his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video was removed by Facebook due to him ‘breaking the internet’ after producing what can only be described as a NSFW spring-break-white-t-shirt-esque video. However, it can still be found on the dark net in exchange for a few hundred bitcoins. The whereabouts of Lucas are still rather vague after his underhand (and apparently successful) attempts at ensuring a ‘No’ vote in September’s referendum. As you can see, it was a fairly busy year all in all.
Despite this, we’ve all made it to another blog birthday, and in true Edinburgh Whisky Blog fashion, we’d like to invite you to celebrate that achievement with us.
Date: Monday March 2nd
Place: The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Vaults, 87 Giles Street, Leith
As usual there will be shedloads of whisky, some awesome cake, a couple of rather mumbling speeches as well as general merriment and banter. What better way to spend a Monday night?
Tiger, Hoban, Lucas, Turbo & Graeme
